11-year-old Sofia Wilson decided to put a message in a bottle while visiting family in Florida. “It said my name, I don’t like Coronavirus, and I’m sick of it and I put my email,” Sofia said.
Her mother didn’t expect any sort of outcome, but just one week later another girl, also 11, found the bottle launched by Sofia.
Sarah Beth Waters was on vacation as well, visiting family in Holden Beach, North Carolina.
“I was running and I found this other water bottle on the beach because I thought it was trash and I bring over to my parents and noticed something in it,” Sarah Beth said. “And I said I think I found a message in a bottle. No you didn’t, no you didn’t.”
Sure enough, the two girls were fast friends. One lives in New York and the other in Florida; neither is from the area that created their friendship.
“Found out a little girl visiting Florida from NY and then we’re from Florida but up in North Carolina visiting family. I find it absolutely crazy, absolutely crazy,” Dean Waters, Sarah Beth’s father, said.
