Attorney General Josh Stein announced a multistate settlement with biotech company Progenity that totals $49 million. The company allegedly billed federal health care programs fraudulently, including kickbacks to physicians for favorable treatment.
“Health care providers should make decisions about their patients’ care by relying on medically sound information, not because they were influenced by companies looking to maximize their own profit,” said Attorney General Josh Stein. “My office will continue to hold companies responsible for committing fraud and wasting taxpayer resources.”
Progenity also admitted to the company’s conduct with regard to fraudulent billing and claims of physician kickbacks.
