Nearly half of businesses in North Carolina are woman-and-minority-owned, and Governor Cooper is requesting those businesses have equal footing in their pursuit of COVID-19 relief funds, CBS17 reports.
The Golden L.E.A.F. Foundation is dispersing loans in North Carolina for struggling businesses. Cooper’s letter was sent to the foundation urging them to make sure woman-and-minority-owned businesses get a fair shake at that money.
“Diverse businesses are engines for our economy, and we need to encourage their continued growth and development as we administer this much-needed aid,” Cooper wrote in the letter. “Given the disproportionate impact this pandemic has had on minority communities, it is more vital than ever for us to ensure that all North Carolina businesses have equal access to these funds.”
