The Cooper for NC campaign released a new radio spot entitled “Half A Million.” The ad emphasizes the importance of Medicaid expansion for North Carolina

“Half a million North Carolinians. That’s how many people are being denied health insurance through Medicaid,” the narrator begins. “As governor, Roy Cooper is working to expand Medicaid like 39 other states have already done, including Indiana when Mike Pence was governor.”

Despite 77% of North Carolinians supporting Medicaid expansion in a recent poll, Lt. Governor Dan Forest and the Republican-led General Assembly have opposed providing health care for more than half a million residents in the state.

“Dan Forest thinks it’s okay that we’re at the bottom on Medicaid with Mississippi and Alabama,” the narrator continues. “And if Dan Forest is governor, we’d have more people without health care and going bankrupt if they get sick.”

“That’s not a place North Carolina should be,” the narrator concludes.

Half a million North Carolinians. That’s how many people are being denied health insurance through Medicaid.

Veterans, essential workers, people laid off during the pandemic.

As governor, Roy Cooper is working to expand Medicaid like 39 other states have already done, including Indiana when Mike Pence was governor.

Governor Cooper understands that part of rebuilding our economy after this pandemic is ensuring that people have health care and that small businesses can afford to hire more workers.

But candidate for governor Dan Forest and the state legislature keep saying no and are blocking Medicaid expansion.

Dan Forest thinks it’s okay that we’re at the bottom on Medicaid with Mississippi and Alabama.

And if Dan Forest is governor, we’d have more people without health care and going bankrupt if they get sick.

That’s not a place North Carolina should be.
