Billionaire businessman and Dan Forest’s biggest donor Greg Lindberg is facing the prospect of prison time as sentencing is set to begin for his bribery case. Lindberg made waves in North Carolina after beginning to write massive checks, particularly to Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest and his associated committees.
Lindberg was found guilty after attempting to bribe Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey, who went to the FBI and wore a wire. Former NCGOP Chairman Robin Hayes planned to orchestrate the bribe by funneling $2 million through the state GOP and into Causey’s account, according to the Charlotte Observer.
According to the Charlotte Observer, “the amount of money involved along with the fact that the conspirators attempted to corrupt high-ranking public officials could add significant time to their sentences.”
The Cooper for North Carolina campaign launched an ad campaign highlighting Dan Forest’s ties to Lindberg. WhatsDanHiding.com shows the connection between Dan Forest and his biggest donor.
“Cooper’s campaign released a digital ad they plan to start running this week highlighting donations Forest received from Greg Lindberg, who is accused of trying to bribe the state’s Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey (R). Causey reported the matter to the FBI and cooperated with federal agents in their investigation,” CBS17 reported.
“He continues to try to hide the ball on his role in the state’s biggest political bribery scandal,” a Cooper spokesperson said. “North Carolina voters want to know: what else is Dan Forest hiding?”
