Daniel Toben has always been interested in keeping the environment clean, but his latest venture has made headlines in Raleigh.

According to ABC 11, a friend of Daniel shared this tweet from NCDOT about keeping roadsides clean throughout the year. It encouraged North Carolinians to take a trash bag along on walks while maintaining a safe distance.

Daniel took up that challenge and then some. The Raleigh man left Hillside park in Durham with 16 large trash bags filled with trash.

“It was kind of a just like spur of the moment, go out and do a cleanup,” Daniel told ABC 11.

Daniel does cleanups three times a week, according to ABC 11, and has a nonprofit called The Earth Stewards in the works.

“I hope what I’m doing can become a community wide shared endeavour,” Daniel said.
