State Treasurer Dale Folwell is following the lead of Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest in campaigning in-person, most recently speaking to Republicans in Mt. Airy at the grand opening of their local Republican headquarters, the Mt. Airy News reports.
“About 75 people assembled to see a ribbon cut at the front door,” according to the paper. On-lookers then gathered under a tent to listen to remarks.
Photos included in the article show few attendees maintaining social distance or wearing masks. Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest has repeated the falsehood that masks are ineffective in curbing the spread of the coronavirus. He has also pledged to “shake as many hands” as he can.
Folwell has called for the state to reopen quicker, while public health experts like Dr. Mandy Cohen, NCDHHS head, says the state needs to continue using a cautious approach.
