North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein announced that his office was investigating 173 reports of price gouging, according to the News & Observer.
A number of North Carolinians have experienced scam robocalls “offering miracle cures” and fake vaccines. There is no known cure for coronavirus at this time.
“These are snake oil salesmen,” Stein said during a video conference. “There’s no scenario that I can imagine that that’s a proper transaction.”
Beyond obvious scams, Stein’s office is also pursuing price gougers. When Governor Cooper announced a state of emergency earlier this month, North Carolina price gouging laws went into effect.
