A new poll published by WRAL finds that North Carolinians overwhelmingly support masks to help curb the spread of coronavirus. The survey found 90 percent of respondents say they wear masks while in public.
The poll also finds that nearly 75% of North Carolinians support masks in public.
Despite the widespread support and use of masks in North Carolina, Lt. Governor Dan Forest continues to spread misinformation and outright lies about masks and the coronavirus.
In July, Politifact gave Forest a “false” rating for his claim that “masks do not work with viruses.” The authors of the study he cited said their research had been misconstrued and that, actually, people should wear masks. Forest also said he would make masks optional and send everyone back to school in-person with no safety precautions, regardless of COVID-19 cases in the area. He has also misrepresented how dangerous COVID-19 is for children, earning a “mostly false” rating from Politifact.
